The job of contractor is an extremely difficult job. The job is to create a home on a lot that the contractor does not choose, with a plan from a designer he does not know with clients he does not know well, using subcontractors that he has little control over. We challenged Island Craftsman with an un-level lot, had never had a house built before and had a house designer that frankly, did a poor job. Despite these handicaps, Island Craftsman built us a tremendous house, on time and within 2% of the bid (not including the changes we made along the way). I do not believe that any other contractor could have built our house as well or taken more time to work with us than Island Craftsman.

I am pleased to comment on my experience in working with the Island Craftsman leadership team on the planning and building of my guest home.
Island Craftsman worked with me on the placement of the guest house on my lot to best fit the setting and to minimize the impact on the trees that were around the footprint we wanted the home to be placed.
We then set to work on the design of the home. Since this was going to be small in square footage, it was of utmost importance to identify the needs and functionality to best utilize the space. The building team worked closely with me and their "in-house" Interior Design Coordinator to insure we fulfilled these needs. Island Craftsman was so helpful in suggesting great ideas that were both practical and cost sensitive to keep the total project within the budget that I had set.
I decided to do some upgrades and Island Craftsman was so great to remind me that I had a budget that I had set for myself. None-the-less, they helped me realize my "upgrade wish-list" with minimal impact on my budget. They were very resourceful locating places to acquire "good buys" to actualize the effect we wanted in a cost effective way and still have quality.
The guest cottage is great! The interior design invites you to come in and stay awhile! The vision I had for both functionality and street appeal exceeded my expectations and we stayed "almost" in budget. Overages were due to decision I made.
To summarize my building experience with Island Craftsman.
- Island Craftsman was wonderful with advice when I asked for it.
- If I had any questions about any part of the project they responded immediately, returned phone calls in a timely manner and were considerate of any suggestions I might have, as crazy as they might have been.
- I receive many comments on the "detail" and craftsmanship that my guest home exhibits on both the exterior and interior.
- The workmanship is A+ and it shows.
- The construction crew was always courteous, cleaned up the work area and was very professional.
